It is in the village church of La Chapelle-Montligeon, a charming Gothic building with panelled vaults, that Fr. Buguet realised his plan to found an association of prayer for the dead. The side chapel, where Our Ladys altar is, was the first oratory of the Expiatory Work for the forgotten souls in Purgatory.
The plan of the building is irregular: pillars separate the nave from a side aisle which ends half way to the sanctuary. The paintings on the walls make up a pleasant collection from the XIX th century. The reredos of the high altar, in natural wood, dates from the XVIIth century. In front, a little wooden, railed altar is decorated with ceramic patterns. Above the door, a beautiful Renaissance stained-glass window depicts Our Lady of Pity, holding in her arms Jesus, taken down from the Cross. On the other section, on the right, are a donor on his knees and an abbot of the nearby abbey of Valdieu. The donor is holding a Latin inscription : Mother of God, remember me. Here, Our Lady remembers us and all those we have loved.
Today, the church is part of the parish clustering (of 24 churches) of Sainte-Céronne-au-Perche, and is served by the parish priest of Mortagne.
